Ethereum Slides as Foundation Co-Director Steps Down

Hsiao-Wei Wang’s exit from the Ethereum Foundation adds to a leadership shakeup as ETH prices slip below $1,700.

Ethereum is changing hands near $1,690, down roughly 2.86% over the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data. The dip follows news that Hsiao-Wei Wang, co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, is stepping down effective immediately, following a sabbatical.

Wang joined the Foundation’s research team in 2017 and helped design the Beacon Chain, the backbone of Ethereum’s shift to proof-of-stake. She was promoted to co-executive director in March 2025 alongside Tomasz Stańczak, who left the role himself in February.

Her departure marks yet another senior exit at the nonprofit, following a string of resignations from the Foundation’s leadership and Protocol teams over the past year. Bastian Aue has taken on a larger interim role guiding the organization through the transition.

While leadership turnover at the Foundation doesn’t directly control ETH’s price, the timing has fed into a broader bout of bearish sentiment across the market this week. Traders weighing where ETH price goes next will be watching whether the Foundation names permanent leadership soon.
