Eric Benz Talking Crypto with Maggie Xu from Jaxx Liberty
Today Changelly’s guest at “Crypto Talks” is Maggie Xu – CEO at Jaxx Liberty – all-in-one crypto platform to buy, store, manage, and exchange cryptocurrency (Changelly’s API integration was pretty helpful in this regard.) CEO Changelly Eric Benz discussed with Maggie her background in crypto and plans for the company’s further development. Have a read!
Eric: Today, Jaxx Liberty is not just a crypto project. Indeed, it is an outstanding brand that start-ups look up to. Now, could you dive into the Jaxx’s history with us?
Decentral is the maker of Jaxx Classic (2014) and later Jaxx Liberty (2018), one-stop cryptocurrency platforms that empower millions of people with the tools they need to control their digital lives.
Decentral opened its door on Jan 1, 2014 with the goal of becoming an innovation hub for disruptive and decentralized technologies.
In just six years, the organization has created a community of hundreds of partner projects, most notably spawning Ethereum and Jaxx Liberty. We build the tools to enable people to be in control of their digital lives.
Eric: Could you please tell a bit about your background in crypto for Changelly readers? What was the turning point for you to begin a career in blockchain?
I first learned about “smart contracts” in 2016 while practising as a business lawyer, specializing in cross-border commercial deals. With my legal background, I immediately realized the enormous power of these self-executing contracts that could replace the redundancy work for lawyers, accountants, brokers and virtually every other industry.
It’s actually a funny story. Right around the time I started going to all the crypto meetups, I realized Decentral is across the hall from my old company at One Eleven, Canada’s largest scaleup incubator. I joined Decentral in 2017 and everyday has been an adventure since!
Eric: What key principles do you stand by to make Jaxx Liberty as outstanding as it is?
We’ll always remain a non-custodial wallet for our users – this means users hold the keys to their wallets and are truly in control of their assets
We’re a free product but we commit to offer outstanding user support 7 days a week
If you look at our app, you’ll find that design and user experience is paramount for us. We spend a lot of time going through every scenario, with the goal of reducing user friction and giving them delights every step of their journey
Eric: Jaxx Liberty is not just a wallet. It is an entire ecosystem that involves a crypto media house, a blockchain explorer and many more. Do you believe that such a business approach is a must to survive in the fast-moving crypto industry?
Absolutely. Gone are the days where you have to use one app for buying cryptocurrency, another app for exchanging them, a third one for managing them where you hold the keys, and a fourth and perhaps a fifth one for checking market prices and how your portfolio is doing.
Why not combine these functions into one platform? We just added Changelly integration for easy in-app exchange and will support Simplex shortly where users can buy cryptocurrency with a few clicks.
Eric: Any plans on issuing the project’s native cryptocurrency?
Yes. If you look in the Jaxx Liberty app, you’ll see a section called “rewards”. We’re in the process of rolling out our rewards token, which we’re temporarily calling “JXX” points. We won’t be selling this, instead, we’ll be giving this away to our users for using our app. The more they trade and use our app, the more JXX points they’ll earn. Down the road, there are many possibilities of what users can do with these points, ex. Leaderboard ranks in the Jaxx Liberty ecosystem, discounts on trading fees, rewards etc.
Eric: What do you think the Bitcoin’s price band might be in a couple of years?
As the blockchain technology matures and is able to scale to the market demands, that rising demand combines with a fixed supply means there’s only one direction for cryptocurrency price: upwards.
Eric: If you had one chance in a million to ask Satoshi a question what would it be? PS: not counting the one that sounds like “How do you prove you are Satoshi?”
Curious what was your thought and planning processes for you to launch Bitcoin?
Thanks a lot for this inspiring conversation, Maggie, and have a nice swap!
