How to buy

How can I buy crypto on Changelly?

Changelly allows you to buy cryptocurrencies with your local fiat currency in a couple of steps:

  • Choose the cryptocurrency you’d like to purchase and the fiat currency you’d like to pay in.

  • Look through all the available offers and choose the one that suits you best.

  • Enter your crypto wallet address, and don’t forget to fill in a memo or a destination tag if it’s provided by your wallet.

  • After that you’ll be redirected to a chosen provider’s page. Go through the verification process on the provider’s page, if required by the provider. If you want to purchase crypto without leaving Changelly, we recommend you to use the Direct Buy feature.
  • Check all the details and enter your payment information. The ETA of the transaction depends on the provider, your bank, and your chosen payment method.
  • Please note that Changelly does not store any information about fiat-to-crypto transactions. Once the transaction is completed, you can see its details on the chosen provider’s side. The provider will also send you an email with transaction details, transaction hash (which is basically the transaction confirmation), etc.

Where can I get a wallet?

Changelly is not a cryptocurrency wallet. We neither provide you with a wallet address nor store your assets. To initiate your first transaction, you should create a wallet first. Learn how to get and set one up in our blog article.

Our exchange algorithm is integrated into the following wallets:

You can also use your internal Changelly PRO wallet address to store your assets.

Usually, the cryptocurrency is delivered within 5–15 minutes. However, in some cases, due to market demand, it could take up to 3 hours. In case you have not received your crypto in 3 hours, please reach out to the provider’s support team.

Also, here you can find some suggestions about why your transaction can be stuck.

How do you process Direct Buy transactions?

Direct Buy transactions allow our users to buy crypto without having to leave the Changelly website. Currently, they are processed with the help of our partner Switchere — but we might introduce more purchase providers offering this feature in the future.

What if my transaction status says “Action required,” but I did not receive any inquiries?

Double-check your inbox and spam folder. If you can’t find anything there, please contact our support team via live chat (available in the lower right corner on every page of our platform) or by submitting a ticket here. Please indicate your transaction ID in your message.

How can I cancel my Direct Buy transaction?

You can only cancel your transaction if it’s on hold or hasn’t been paid yet.

To cancel your transaction, message our support team via the 24/7 live chat on our website and tell them your Direct Buy transaction ID and that you want to cancel it. We will take care of everything else!

How long does it take to receive cryptocurrency after making a card payment?

Your crypto will typically be in your wallet in 5-15 minutes. However, the transaction might take a bit longer if additional verification is required or in case of some overload on the provider’s end.

Switchere limits and fees

Switchere fees are dynamic and depend on a wide variety of factors, like the cryptocurrency you’re buying, your payment method, and so on. Fees are always included in the amount you see when making a transaction — there are no hidden commissions.

Switchere limits depend on your country of residence and your account status. Here they are:

EU US Non-EU/US
Basic Information €150 Unlimited* $150
Identity Verified €1,000 $1,000
Address Verified €15,000 $15,000
Proof of Income Verified Unlimited Unlimited

*Please note that all US residents are required to verify both their identity and address to be able to use our services. Once this is done, they won’t have any limits on their crypto purchases.

In some cases, the above-mentioned limits might be reduced, depending on a variety of risk factors like past account actions. If you have any questions about your personal limits, please contact Switchere’s support team.

Why is my Direct Buy transaction on hold?

The transaction is usually put on hold if you need to go through verification and send some additional information to our partner Switchere. If that happens, we will typically update you on your transaction status and any actions you might need to take via email. If your transaction is on hold, yet you haven’t received any emails, please contact our support team via live chat (available in the lower right corner of our website).

To check your “Direct Buy” transaction status, you will need to follow the link provided in one of our emails regarding that particular transaction. Alternatively, you can use the following webpage: changelly.com/direct-buy/transaction/[ID], where [ID] is your transaction ID. For example, changelly.com/direct-buy/transaction/[010101].

Why do I need to pass additional verification for Direct Buy transactions?

Please note that only a small minority of users will have to pass verification when using Changelly’s Direct Buy feature. It is usually requested by our partner Switchere and required to keep the crypto space safe. Verification is also necessary for US residents and non-US residents wishing to exceed the monthly purchase limit.

How can I pass additional verification for Direct Buy transactions?

Once your transaction is put on hold, we will send you an email with a link to your transaction status page. From there, you will be redirected to the Switchere website, where the verification process will take place. Follow their instructions to proceed.

Please note that you can always opt out of verification and cancel your transaction. Moreover, if you get the email and do not pass additional verification within 3 days, then your transaction will be canceled automatically.

You will get an email with updates on your verification status.

How long does it take to process my Direct Buy transaction?

Most users will be able to get their crypto within minutes after confirming their transactions. However, that time can be extended if there is network congestion or if the user is asked to pass verification.

Do I need a verified account?

We work with several purchase providers that allow buying crypto without verification, but only if the purchase amount is below a certain point. These purchase providers are Switchere and Wert. In some cases, they may still ask you to pass verification according to their internal guidelines.

Their limits for no-verification purchases are as follows:
Switchere – $150
Wert – up to €1,000

To have a fiat transaction that exceeds the limit processed, you should pass the KYC (Know Your Customer) procedure. Our partners ask you to provide your personal information and attach scans of your documents. In case you still would like to clarify why the KYC process is essential while working with fiat currencies, check out this page.

Typically, once the procedure is passed, further purchases via the same provider won’t require additional verification as long as the payment method remains the same.

Our partners independently set the limits on available purchase amounts. To get more details, please visit the website of the corresponding provider.

What is the minimum amount?

We provide fiat transactions via our partners, and each of them naturally has its own minimum limits. The limits are also defined by the selected currency:

  • MoonPay, Banxa – $30
  • Simplex – $50
  • Switchere – $10
  • Wert – $5
  • Topper – $10

Please note that some providers might be unavailable in your country of residence.

What are the fees?

The minimal fee for fiat-to-crypto transactions is 4%. However, the final fee depends on the selected currency pair, your country of residence, market rates, volatility and other factors.

You can see the final fee for a certain purchase on the processing screen before payment. To see it choose the currency pair and the amount in fiat currency on the “Buy” page. After that you’ll see our providers which can process your purchase. You’ll also see the estimated cryptocurrency amount you’ll get near the provider’s name. Enter your recipient wallet address and click the green “Buy” button to get redirected to the provider’s page.

On their page you’ll see more details regarding your purchase, including all the fees.

Does Changelly accept credit cards issued in any country?

While buying crypto via our partners, you can pay with a 3D Secure card issued in any country and currency. If the provider doesn’t support your local currency, transactions can still be processed in either USD, GBP, or EUR, if you select any of these as your purchase currency. Then, your local currency will be converted to USD, GBP, or EUR at your bank rate, if your bank supports international transactions.

To eliminate the costs associated with multiple conversions, we recommend choosing the fiat currency of your bank card, so you can choose the provider that supports your local currency. We also recommend that you use debit cards instead of credit ones to ensure that your transaction won’t be declined by the bank (which issued the card). Please also make sure that your payment method is eligible for international transactions and that your bank allows operations with cryptocurrency.

Please note that your transaction won’t be processed if you reside in an unsupported country.
